Back to School Assistance
The Salvation Army Back to School Project is designed to provide basic school supplies for children whose parents cannot afford the items necessary for their children to succeed in school.
Families in need of Back to School Assistance: Please call The Salvation Army Corps Community Center at 815-455-2769.
Eligibility is based on annual household income that is no more than 200% of the poverty guideline ($48,500 for a family of four) and verified residency in McHenry County. To qualify for assistance, you must bring the following:
- 1 form of verification of residency in McHenry Co. (such as driver’s license, utility bill or lease contract)
- Proof of monthly income (pay stub, social security or child support statements)
- Social Security cards or birth certificates for all dependent children for grades K-12.
Applications will be accepted in Crystal Lake in August. All applications for McHenry County will be accepted in Crystal Lake.

Backpacks are distributed at the time of applications.

Donations of NEW school supplies will be accepted at The Salvation Army Community Center – 290 W Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake and at locations throughout McHenry County in the summer months.
