The Salvation Army Responds with Emergency Canteen to First Responders and Families of Marengo Explosion
The Salvation Army serving McHenry County provides emergency services and long-term needs to families devastated and displaced by Sunday’s explosion
The Salvation Army of McHenry County responded with their mobile canteen to provide hydration and food to first responders, and emotional care to families in need immediately after the explosion in Marengo on Sunday morning. Captain Carol Lewis, commanding officer of The Salvation Army serving McHenry County, states, “We are shocked by what happened yesterday in Marengo and our hearts go out to the families affected by this devastating disaster. We sincerely want to help those in need by providing physical, emotional, and spiritual care, both short-term and long-term, as situations arise during the aftermath of this disaster.”
The Salvation Army of McHenry County provides emergency services assistance year-round that includes food, shelter, transportation, prescription and medication assistance, clothing and shoes, pet supplies, diapers, formula and other infant assistance. During the time of a disaster the same services are provided as well as immediate food and hydration to first responders and families affected by the situation. Working directly in cooperation with the MORE Center, The Salvation Army Service Extension office of McHenry County provides a caseworker to meet with families, take phone calls, and provide spiritual respite through prayer and comfort. “We are the shoulder to cry on, the hand to hold and the ear to listen to in times of devastating loss. We are compassion in action for the community of Marengo,” states Captain Carol Lewis.
